Hiking in Fischamend

Rail hike in the Vienna surroundings: from Fischamend to Schwechat. 

Lots of Lobau, lots of water, lots of dike, with some luck also herons and cormorants – but also many mosquitoes – these are the „ingredients“ of this stage. Altitude meters? Almost zero.

This path follows the long-distance trail 07 - East Austrian Border Trail in a south-north direction. The total length of the East Austrian Border Trail is about 700 km and ends at the Nebelstein in the Waldviertel.

This path follows the long-distance trail 07 - East Austrian Borderland Trail from south to north. The total length of the East Austrian Borderland Trail is approximately 740 km and ends at the Nebelstein in the Waldviertel region.

The Römerland Carnuntum Way of St. James joins the Camino Slovakia at the border near Berg and flows directly into the Vienna Way of St. James. It is divided into four stages.

On the long-distance hiking trail through natural floodplain forests The rarely visited Lower Lobau is also part of the Danube-Auen National Park; unlike the urban Upper Lobau, it is managed by the Austrian Federal Forests (ÖBF). It is more pristine and accessible only by two hiking trails. One of these is the European long-distance hiking trail E 4/8, which we follow from Schönau to Groß-Enzersdorf. Herons and cormorants nest in the protected area, so the bathing ban must be strictly observed.

The Maria Ellend - Schwecht stage has a particularly beautiful section through the Donau-Auen National Park.
