Boat trip on the Walensee
There are various starting points from which you can explore the Walensee region. Two well-known ones are Weesen and Walenstadt. At the same time, these two towns are the two endpoints of the fjord-like body of water. One of the hiking tours in the area leads from Weesen to Walenstadt or vice versa. This hiking trail on the northern lakeside is a classic. While the southern lakeside is well connected in terms of traffic, this side is accessible by ship only in most places. In the warm summer months, the Walensee is served at ten landing stages. Thus, hikes along the lake can be very well combined with a boat trip.
Hiking from Weesen to Quinten
You can hike from Weesen to Quinten and continue from there by ship. The place Quinten is car-free. The route initially follows the steep rock walls along the Walensee. After a while, the path lies in the forest and somewhat away from the lake. You reach the hamlet Betlis with its picturesque chapel. A little further up are the Seerenbach Falls. Here you have reached approximately halfway of the route to Quinten. Quinten is famous for its warm microclimate, which is created by the steep rock walls near the shores of the Walensee. Here even palm trees, kiwis, figs, and other southern plants grow.

Hike to the Seerenbach Falls at Lake Walen
The Seerenbach Falls are among the highest waterfalls in Europe. A special natural spectacle awaits you here on the hiking tour from Weesen to Quinten. Also special is the ring spring, which emerges from the mountain and falls over a 45 m high rock face into the Seerenbach. However, the total height with a difference in elevation of 600 m is even more impressive. From the middle tier, the water falls directly downwards for over 305 m. It is worth pausing at this place of power to feel the mighty power of the water.

Chestnut Trail Murg - hiking trail with 1850 sweet chestnut trees
The Seerenbach Falls are not the only waterfalls around Lake Walen. Another one, the Murgbach waterfall, is located on the Chestnut Trail from Murg. The Chestnut Trail is one of the hiking trails on the southern lakeside. 1850 sweet chestnut trees contribute to Murg's increased popularity. The mild föhn climate and the acidic soil favor the growth of the trees, which are rather unusual for northern Switzerland. Here, everyone is allowed to collect "Marroni", that is chestnuts. You must note that you are only allowed to harvest those nuts that are already on the ground. It is not permitted to knock them off the trees with sticks or stones. A wonderful view of the deep blue water of Lake Walen awaits you at the playground along the Chestnut Trail. The route is worthwhile not only during harvest time.
