The 10 most beautiful hikes in Terschelling
History of Terschelling
In the past, Terschelling consisted of two parts. The East side and the West side. Over the years, these two islands have become one larger island and belong to Friesland. Terschelling is a long island with a beach width of about 40 kilometers.
In 1287 there was a flood disaster on Terschelling. Before this disaster, the Wadden island was connected to Friesland. From Hoorn, you could go to the mainland. Now West Terschelling is the main place because that is where the boats arrive.
Enjoy the fresh breeze on the Boschplaat
The Boschplaat is a beautiful natural area on the east side of Terschelling. This area is a European nature reserve and that is certainly for good reason. The area consists of beautiful dunes, marshes, and forests. You will also find a lot of sand because the Boschplaat has the widest beach on Terschelling. On this beach, you can enjoy the fresh breeze and the tranquility.
The Boschplaat is one of the few places in the Netherlands where there is absolutely no source of light. Maybe you have never thought about it, but nowadays there are lantern posts or other lights everywhere. Here you are really able to enjoy the starry sky. If you want to experience this, go to the Dark Sky Park located near the Boschplaat.
De Boschplaat is a beautiful nature reserve where you unfortunately cannot always go.
