The Postalm, with over 40 square kilometres, is the largest coherent alpine pasture area in Austria and is accessible via toll roads from Strobl in the north and Abtenau in the south. On the mountain pasture you have a huge choice of hikes, huts and other leisure activities for the whole family.
Here, hikers of pleasure and mountaineers alike feel at home. There are relaxed hikes from hut to hut, easy tours to the summits but also challenging ascents. Popular summit destinations include the Pitscherberg and the Wieslerhorn. There are several options for circular hikes on the plateau.
Easy hikes on the shores of Lake Wolfgang
Of course, a summit climb with a view of Lake Wolfgangsee and far into the Salzkammergut mountains is something great, but sometimes a leisurely hike right by the lake is just as good without any great ambitions, but perfect for relaxing and enjoying the landscape. For pleasure hikers there is a wide range of easy tours that start directly in Strobl. The hike to Sankt Wolfgang around the Bürgl is a popular one – it always goes along the lakeshore. However, you don't get this experience for free: the Sparber is one of the more demanding mountain hikes around Lake Wolfgang and should only be tackled by those who are free from vertigo.
