The Silbertal is a fantastically beautiful valley in the Montafon and a great place for families who love hiking. The Kristberg is an easily accessible yet wonderfully versatile hiking area right next to the village. But challenging tours into the high mountains of the Montafon can also be started from here. In the Silbertal valley at the back, you can also take hikes through the largest nature reserve in Vorarlberg.

Forecast for Silbertal

10-day forecast

Is Silbertal the most beautiful place in Montafon?

The municipality of Silbertal and the valley of the same name are located in the Montafon, very close to Schruns. This beautiful side valley on the edge of the Verwall Mountains is a tranquil place. In winter there is a small skiing area, in summer the Kristberg cable car takes hikers up the mountain and makes it possible to go on easy hikes at high altitude. For many, Silbertal is the most beautiful place in the Montafon due to its wonderful, sunny location.

The Kristberg and Silbertal are particularly popular with families. This is due on the one hand to the large number of easy hikes, but also to the many exciting themed trails. Along them you can learn interesting facts about the Silbertal and its mining history.

Hiking and enjoyment on the Kristberg

The Kristberg cable car quickly takes you to the mountain ridge at 1450 metres. Many beautiful and easy hiking trails start here. There is also a lot on offer on the Kristberg: Two mountain inns and several catered alpine pastures make the area a mountain for everyone. Here, even hikers with little physical condition can experience the beauty of the Alps. Somewhat more challenging is the great tour to the Itonskopf.

.

Another, longer tour takes you via the Wasserstubental valley back down to Silbertal. You will pass the Wildried lookout point, which offers you a great view of the Montafon. At the bottom of the valley, a detour to the Teufelsbach waterfall is a must before you can end the day in the cosy centre.

Culinary hikes in Silbertal

The mountain huts and mountain inns in Vorarlberg are known for their good food and drink, and you will also find some in Silbertal. A hike from the end of the village (hikers' car park) to the Fellimännle inn is a good idea. In the rustic pub you can sample all kinds of delicacies before hiking back along the beautiful path.

You can also hike a little further into the valley and stop off at the Hasahüsli. Here, too, there is a lot on offer in the way of culinary delights, as you would expect in Vorarlberg. If you still feel like a digestive round afterwards, you can hike further to the Untere Gaflunaalpe.

Long tours in the Verwall European nature reserve

The Verwall European nature reserve, the largest nature reserve in Vorarlberg, is easy to hike and explore from Silbertal. The area is known for its species-rich flora and fauna, home to numerous moors and impressive peaks and valleys. If you want to be out and about in this natural jewel, you need to be in good shape to reach the very quiet corners. The second Verwall circuit is a good way to traverse the area. The hotel is the Neue heilbronner Hütte.

Tips: Hiking bus and excursions

If you pitch your tents directly in Silbertal and fancy a change of scenery, there are a number of excursions on offer. For example, you can take the hiking bus further into the valley; cars have to stay outside. Nearby Schruns is also worth a trip. In Schruns, for example, you can take the Hochjochbahn cable car up to 2000 metres and take the beautiful hike to the Wormser Hütte. As you can see, boredom is not an option here, unless you are looking for it. And if it gets to be too much, take a look at our Montafon travel guide and find a new activity.
