A day at Silver Lake
The Silver Lake near Bobenheim-Roxheim was originally created as a dredging lake and was therefore a by-product of sand and gravel mining in Rhineland-Palatinate. Over time, however, it became more and more a popular meeting place for locals and developed into a bathing lake, which has become even more attractive due to the hiking trails surrounding it. Since there are hardly any ascents, the Silbersee is also a nice place to hike with children.
The Silbersee recreation area is about 117 hectares in size and offers plenty of variety for excursions. There are many picturesque places to picnic and swim right by the lake. In addition, especially in the warm months, water sports enthusiasts with surfboards and sailboats cavort on the glittering blue. Away from the busy paths, you have the opportunity to discover the rich wildlife of the area. Birds are most abundant around the Silver Lake, but with luck and patience you may also see one or two forest dwellers such as deer or foxes.

Then follow the Altrhein path to the Silbersee lake, where you can refresh yourself on hot days with a dip in the cool water. Your hike will take you to the Ochsenlache, from where you will return to your starting point via the Rheindamm. The path is mostly flat and is also suitable for families or for hiking with children.
