Three days through the mountains of Skarvan og Roltdalen National ParkThe mountain areas of Skarvan og Roltdalen National Park rise in southeastern Trøndelag with Fongen/Lopmesvaerie (1441 m) as the highest peak. The park is named after the mountain range Skarvan/Tjohkeleh, which culminates at Storskarven (1171 m), as well as Roltdalen, the largest roadless forest and alpine valley in southern Trøndelag. The park was established in 2004 to protect wildlife, extensive old coniferous forests, large peatland areas, and the vibrant Sami culture with its reindeer husbandry. Despite areas not being completely spared from human influence, the protected zones have largely remained free from human construction activities and associated infrastructure. However, the protection benefiting the wild animals and reindeer also brings new dangers: the growing popularity of the region among hikers.

Depending on elevation and location, Norway has various vegetation zones. The tour described here leads mostly through raised bogs rich in peat moss and extensive deciduous and mixed forests dominated by spruce. Since the trail has only a slight elevation gain but offers plenty of nature, this might be the perfect moment to take your time, immerse yourself mindfully in the forest, and practice forest bathing. The route also includes Kneipp-style water treading. When crossing the river, the motto is: “Eyes closed, shoes off, and through the ice-cold river!” At the end of the hike, rustic wooden cabins stand in a godforsaken clearing between the 1,041-meter-high Bringen mountain to the northwest and the trio consisting of the 1,043-meter-high Bæelingfjella, the 1,066-meter-high Burkkhåmmåren, and the 1,089-meter-high Tverråfjellet. Here, in the middle of nowhere, body and mind can finally relax and recharge. Perhaps this tour is a path to slowness?!> We leave the small hydroelectric power plant with its reservoir—from which the Usma River 01 originates—and hike along the downhill access road. Then we cross the river on the new bridge, admiring the old bridge as we do so. After a short climb, we turn left onto the road at the hilltop 02. We pass the hermitage 03Kløftvollen. At a fork, we take the path slightly to the right. The signpost is so weathered that the inscription is illegible. We walk almost parallel to a power line and cross a stream. At another stream, we then pass under the power line. After walking a short distance parallel to the river, we wade through the 04Gardåa and continue following the ATV trail. We reach a clearing on a hill with the houses of 05Garddalen. We return to the parking lot at 01Usma via the familiar route we took on the way there.

Ca. 16 km og 3,5 time.
