Flaksjøen, a lake for fishing and swimming in Venabygdsfjellet, is the largest lake in the municipality of Ringebu. Rising from the water are the slopes of Svartfjellet, which offers an excellent view of Venabygdsfjellet and Ringebufjellet, as well as the 2,000-meter peaks of the Rondane Mountains.▶ From the Spidsbergseter 01 mountain hotel—where you can purchase a fishing license for the surrounding lakes at the front desk—follow the red trail markers along the unpaved toll road Flaksjølivegen westward, enjoying scenic views along the way; if you pay a toll of about 5 euros, you can drive along the road, which passes the Ringebu Ski Center and vacation cabins. Beyond the last vacation cabins, Flaksjølivegen passes under the power line, which has been a prominent feature in photos up to that point, descends to the fork in front of the eastern shore of the fishing and swimming lake Flaksjøen 02, and turns right, where, immediately afterward at the end of a side road leading to the lake, there is a rest and swimming area with restrooms and a small fishing boat dock. The red trail markers stay on the road and lead along the sparsely wooded southern slope past the last few vacation cabins. When the bumpy road ends, the red trail markers veer right up the slope (toward “Eldåbu”), while our narrow path at the end of the road continues straight ahead and descends gently toward the stream that flows through the Storkvanndalen valley into Lake Flaksjøen; behind the stream, on a clearing, stands the very last cabin. After crossing a scenic spur of Svartfjellet, the trail descends toward Svartvika Bay 03, climbs to a pass, and leads to the fork at the Svartfjellsætra mountain pasture 04. Caution: Only after passing the mountain huts—that is, below the pasture—do you turn right and ascend to the scenic Svartfjellet 05. From the summit, follow the same steep rocky ridge back to the Svartfjellsætra mountain pasture 04: From the huts, the Svartfjellvegen alpine trail—which is closed to public traffic—descends through the slope of Nausterhaugen Hill, crosses the Friska stream, which flows out of Lake Flaksjøen, and joins the unpaved toll road Flaksjøvegen 06, continuing northward with scenic views. The trail crosses the stream flowing down from Lake Buvatnet toward Flaksjøen, passes the first alpine trail junction a short while later, and then continues with scenic views until the next alpine trail, branching off diagonally to the right, connects the sections of Flaksjøvegen, shortening the route. Flaksjøvegen leads to the right back to the starting point, Spidsbergseter 01.

Mount Ramshøgda rises in the eastern part of Rondane National Park, offering views of the highest peaks. On a clear day, it’s worth hiking to the summit, but a hike around the mountain massif also offers magnificent panoramic views and a diverse natural landscape. ▶ The Mybrua 01 parking lot is located in the southeast of the fishing lake Muvatnet, near the bridge over the outlet of the Mya stream; people occasionally go swimming here. The eye-catching feature to the northeast is the cone-shaped scree mountain Muen; our tour heads northwest toward Ramshøgda in Rondane National Park, while to the southwest rises the mountain Søre Bølhøgda. From the parking lot, a farm road leads to the lake’s shore and continues there as a trail. This path veers around the marshes at the delta where the stream flowing down from Lake Flåtjønnet empties into the lake and, after passing under the power line, reaches a trail junction at Flåtjønnet 02: Here, the trail continues to the right over stepping stones through the lake’s outflow area and on to the Ramshytta hunting cabin 03 at the national park’s boundary. It is situated in a calcareous area rich in vegetation at the end of Ramshyttevegen, a transport route closed to public traffic that some people traverse by bicycle. The hunting cabin is a junction of hiking trails; one is marked and sets the route: From the hunting cabin, the T-markings of the long-distance hiking trail Rondanestien lead steeply upward to the scenic pass 04 between Ramshøgda and Ramstindan. Here, you can take a path marked by cairns to the summit of Ramshøgda; the T-marked trail, however, descends westward into Svabudalen 05. Here we leave the Rondanestien and follow the trail gently downhill through the wide Svabudalen valley, past lakes, to the Svabuhytta 06, which is open year-round; it has been restored and serves as an emergency shelter. Here, at the fork, the trail turns right (east), crosses the northeastern foot of Ramshøgda with scenic views, turns southward at the base of the steep eastern slope, reaches the saddle 07 between Ramshøgda and Merrahøgda, and descends back to Ramshytta 03 along the well-known route. If it has already gotten late—since the hike is long—follow the Ramshyttevegen access road to the Rondevegen pass road 08 and then walk alongside the road, where many trails have formed on both the right and left, back to the starting point at the Mybrua bridge 01.
