Start and finish is at Rammingen-Lindenau, about 25 km northeast of Ulm. This route links the three UNESCO World Heritage caves in Lonetal, the oldest workshop of humankind in the Bockstein massif, the St. Peter’s Cathedral of the Stone Age in Hohlenstein, the discovery site of the world-famous Lion Man and the only Neanderthal bone in southern Germany, with the Archaeopark Vogelherd, where a unique Stone Age artwork, the small ivory mammoth, is exhibited. On the way the Bannwald Grubenhau, impressive dolines, a Roman villa rustica with spring catchment, an interesting pilgrimage church.... Unfortunately, the officially marked path is not optimal. Therefore, the original Neanderthal route is presented here, whose use is permitted by the right of access, especially since it is outside the FFH protected area.

Very nice and easy hike. Spring is a lovely time to do this with all the spring flowers. On Sunday there are a lot of people walking. You won't be alone.

Today was my second time I took this little hike. Both times I've been there have been in spring and the wood trails are muddy. Wear proper hiking boots, running shoes won't do it. Otherwise this is an easy, lovely hike on the footsteps of the Neanderthals.
