Extensive meadow tour with an ambitious climbing sectionOnly about 500 meters as the crow flies separate the Pfoner Kreuzjöchl from the Mislkopf – connected by a ridge that is unusually rugged for the Tux Alps and not without reason bears the name »Rauher Kamm«. Anyone traveling there must be able to grasp firmly at times. Otherwise, this tour shows the typical features of the area: Above the forest belt, extensive meadows stretch out, dotted with fields of alpine roses and, near the Seapenalm, also with noticeably lush cotton grass stands. Those who do not feel confident tackling the small, clever via ferrata on the Rauher Kamm can select one of the peaks without significant loss of the view and thus complete a moderately difficult tour.

Viewpoint extending the Navis valley axisSheep pastures, as is often the case in the Tux Alps, also characterize the Naviser Kreuzjöchl, which as a summit point offers a fine overview of the valley community. Also very attractive is the distant view into the Stubai Alps, the perspective into the inner Schmirntal, and the presence of higher peaks in the neighborhood. Since two different routes can be combined from Navis and there is also a nice place to stop at the Stöcklalm on the normal path, all the basic ingredients for a fulfilling mountain tour are actually present.

Even a valley trail has its advantages There’s no doubt that the Glungezer & Geier Ridge Hike (Stage 8) can’t be beaten by the trail through the Voldertal when it comes to views. But it has other advantages: All the way up to just before the Naviser Jöchl, there’s always a stream or spring nearby to refill your water supply; the trail runs entirely along well-maintained farm roads that are closed to traffic; and it’s shadier than the ridge hike. Even in changeable or bad weather, the trail is safe to hike and, in this respect, once again outperforms the ridge hike.
