Day 6 of the long-distance walk from the Altmühltal to the Swabian Alb. To start the walk, visiting the monastery church in Mönchsdeggingen is a good way to get into the hiking day. Along the way, we ascend castle ruins, some of which have been reclaimed by the forest. A crowning conclusion is certainly the beautiful town of Nördlingen, located in the middle of the Ries crater.

5th day of the long-distance hike from the Altmühl valley to the Swabian Alb. Fairly short hike offering a good opportunity in the morning to visit Harburg. Furthermore, the hiker is greeted at the end by the former monastery complex with a well-preserved church in Mönchsdeggingen. The location of the complex is also very charming.

From Bopfingen, the route goes over the ruin at Flochberg and the Schlossberg back to the Alb ridge. Through the forest, the Albnordrandweg leads to Schweindorf. Through a game enclosure, we enter the Carthusian Valley. From here, the path takes on more the character of a valley trail. Rather below the Alb, it goes to Mönchsdöggingen. We pass the old monastery at the edge of the town and reach the lookout mountain Bockberg (570 m) through the forest. From there, we continue over the Harburg to the town of Harburg (Swabia).

From the former monastic village of Mönchsdeggingen to the legendary MichelsbergThe baroque-style Michaelskirche is situated protected on a chalky rock spur above the Kessel, which has cut deep into the Ries ejecta. Once stood here the castle of the Lords of Fronhofen, who are only documented around 1140/50. Slightly below the Michaelskirche is a cave (»Hanseles Hohl«), named after a farmer who is said to have hidden here with his daughter during the Thirty Years' War. The latter is said to have always called her father with »Hansele hol« (bring your food). The two are said to have been the only survivors of the destroyed village of Fronhofen.
