Geographically speaking, it definitely isn’t one of them, because Ještěd (German: Jeschken) is the highest peak in the Jeschken Mountains. But! On a clear day, this omnipresent and striking peak, with its enormous television tower, can even be spotted from Sněžka—55 km away—and other peaks in the Giant Mountains. Time and again, the attentive hiker spots this solitary giant, which dominates the landscape, while hiking through the Iser Mountains. That’s why Ještěd, this outpost, somehow belongs to the mountain world of the Iser and Giant Mountains—in my opinion. Particularly worth mentioning are the numerous beautiful and lovingly restored half-timbered houses in Kryštofovo Údolí and the fascinating view of Liberec from Ještěd.

From Liberec to the highest mountain in our hiking area The highest peak of the Jeschken ridge is the eponymous Ještěd (Jeschken). The first mountain hut was already on the summit in 1844. The successor built in 1906 was replaced after a fire in 1973 by the current hotel, which was awarded an architecture prize and whose complex includes an 88 m high TV tower. The local mountain of Liberec (Reichenberg) is also accessible by a cable car.
