The highest peak of the Jeschken ridge is the eponymous Ještěd (Jeschken). The first mountain hut was already on the summit in 1844. The successor built in 1906 was replaced after a fire in 1973 by the current hotel, which was awarded an architecture prize and whose complex includes an 88 m high TV tower. The local mountain of Liberec (Reichenberg) is also accessible by a cable car.
We begin the hike at the final stop of tram line 3 in Horní Hanychov, Upper Hanichen. A blue dash marking leads us to the forest edge, from where there is a beautiful view of Liberec and the Jizera Mountains, and through the forest to the road that ascends to Tetřeví sedlo (capercaillie saddle). Beyond that, we hike through spruce forest to the half-dry Mariánská studánka, the Marian spring, and to a cross commemorating the forest worker Josef Dvořák who had an accident here. After half an hour, we cross near the Vířivé kameny, the whirl stones, the access road to the Jeschkenhotel that comes up from the capercaillie saddle. The peaks of this light quartzite rock group bear well-known alpine names such as Matterhorn, Breithorn, and Lyskamm. The blue dash trail continues to ascend and leads us over the Jeschken terraces, which are under nature protection and have numerous quartzite rocks and dwarf pine forests. Below the Ještěd summit we encounter the access road again and turn left. A
