Bjorli is a small town in the Norwegian province of Innlandet. It is located along European Route 136 and the single-track, non-electrified Raumabane railway line. The opening of the train station in 1921 was one of the key factors in the development of the ski resort, which is among the most snow-reliable in Norway. Six ski lifts, offering a total of 19 km of runs, transport visitors from an elevation of 575 m up to 1,225 m. In the summer, only a few hotels and vacation rentals are fully booked. As a result, we hikers are often alone in the mountains. We leave the valley station of the ski resort and quickly reach the Bøvre-Flores stream. We follow its course for quite a while past numerous waterfalls until we finally ascend through the treeless tundra. During the final ascent to the Toppen summit, we can see Lake Bøvre on our right. This comes as no surprise in a country with around 450,000 lakes. On a clear day, the lake reflects the impressive surroundings. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case during our research trip, as it was raining and foggy. I’ve read that the view of the surrounding mountains is supposed to be very beautiful from up there.> From the chairlift’s valley station on Gardsvegen in 01Bjorli, we hike to the left toward the towns of Finnset (25 km away) and Bøverbotten, both of which are signposted. There is a large parking lot to the left of the trail. After crossing a stream, we leave the gravel path and turn slightly left. The trail is now already signposted toward Mount Toppen. From a bridge, a path branching off to the left offers a beautiful view of the Bøvre River. After the detour, we continue on our original route toward Bøverbotten. At the next 02 fork in the trail, a path veers slightly left toward smooth, flat rocks along the stream bed. If the ground is dry, you can easily walk along the river. If the ground is wet, however, you should wait until about 100 m further on before turning left. We walk along the stream for a while until we cross the 03 Bøvre to the left via a bridge. From here on, the route is clear. As soon as we reach the treeless terrain, we notice that numerous stones are color-coded. The trail then branches off several times, however. At the 04 fork in the trail, we keep to the left-center. To the left above us, we can already see a cairn, which serves as a landmark for the rest of the ascent. From there, the trail continues for quite a distance across a high plateau to the summit of 05 Toppen. To the east, Lake Bøvre lies at our feet. The view of the surrounding peaks is also truly unique. The return trip follows the well-known route back to 01 Bjorli.
