The upper Demänovská Valley is dominated by four majestic mountains offering panoramic views: Siná (1,560 m) to the northwest, Krakova hol’a (1,751 m) to the northeast, Ďumbier (2,043 m) to the southeast, and Pol’ana (1,890 m) to the southwest. The southern flank of the valley is bounded by the main ridge of the Low Tatras, featuring the 2,024-meter-high Chopok and the 2,004-meter-high Dereše. Running from the southwest toward the northwest is another mountain range with three peaks just under 2,000 m. We hike along this scenic high-altitude trail, enjoying fascinating views of the peaks just described, the Demänovská Valley, and the Western and High Tatras. However, this adventurous hike requires a natural sense of adventure, as many fallen trees block the path, and in some places you’ll have to find your way intuitively.> From the parking lot at the Mikulášska Chata Hotel 01 (1,139 m), we head to the main road and turn right onto the continuing road to begin our hike. On the gravel road that follows, we pass a house with a green roof. To our right rise the peaks of Polʼana, Záklʼuky, and Bôr—all of which lie along today’s route. At the Tri vody fork, we take the path slightly to the right, following the trail toward Bôr. Above the tree line, the trail climbs upward through mountain pines until we reach a steep gully, where we zigzag our way up to Sedlo Polʼany02 (1,837 m). On the “Skeleton of Slovakia”—as the main ridge of the Low Tatras is known—we head uphill in a northwesterly direction. After just 500 m, having covered a short stretch on the long-distance hiking trail Cesta hrdinov SNP (Path of Heroes—see Tours 21–23), we reach Polʼana03 (1,890 m). At this point, the long-distance trail branches off to the left; we continue straight ahead along the ridge running northward. We descend to a saddle and, after a short climb, reach the summit of Záklʼuky04 (1,915 m), a unique vantage point: To the north, the landscapes of the Western and Low Tatras rise up; to the right below lies the Demänovská Valley; and to the east, we look along the main mountain ridge as far as Mount Dereše, which stands at 2,004 m. We continue along the ridge we’ve been following and cross the 1,888-meter-high Bôr. After a long descent, we reach the Napant Bôr saddle05 (1,437 m). Exactly at the spot where there is a sign—indicating the permitted times for using the trail—we turn sharply right and head slightly uphill toward the edge of the forest. The trail is very rarely used; fallen trees are everywhere, making navigation extremely difficult. At this point, it’s advisable to use the GPS track for guidance. After about 200 m, a faint trail becomes visible; to the right above is the ridge we descended. Passing through mountain pines and Scots pines and crossing several streams, we reach a trail fork in the middle of nowhere. From this vantage point, we can see the Jasná ski resort; here, we turn left onto a narrow path through more mountain pines. Another section without a defined path follows, as we weave our way around felled trees until we come to a ski run. After walking 400 m straight ahead on this run, which leads over a ridge, we turn onto a path branching off to the right at the first flat section of the route. On this newly built trail, we reach a small valley, where we cross the stream bed to reach the continuing path. We skip the wooden bridge and continue downhill to the left on the cart path. Our trail joins another path. We ignore two cart paths branching off to the right, but then turn right at the next path. We cross the Zadná River downhill and, after a short climb, reach the Mikulášska Chata01 Hotel.

Útulňa Pod Chabencom – Chata Generála Milana Rastislava Štefánika - Der Fernwanderweg E8 durch die Niedere Tatra –2. Etappe
