The town of Lanjarón is situated on the slopes of Cerro del Caballo and is known for its numerous springs, which are fed by snowmelt from the Sierra Nevada. Acequias are a typical feature of the rural landscape. The Spanish word “acequia” originates from the Arabic word “al-sāqiyah,” which refers to both open and closed water channels used for irrigation, supplying towns, or similar purposes. They are typically fed by reservoirs, small water storage basins, or the riverbed. They were constructed by the Moors. A hiking trail winds through this cultural landscape with its lush vegetation: chestnut and walnut trees at higher elevations, and orange, almond, pomegranate, kiwi, fig trees, and olive groves at lower elevations line the path. The sound of trickling water accompanies the ascent.> We begin our tour heading west at the bus stop and fountain on the main road through Lanjarón. Behind the last large plantation, we turn right onto the street, follow the curve to the left, and continue straight ahead—even onto the one-way street. Behind a fountain, before another one-way sign, we turn right onto the street. Two red tiles with footprints and the names of two hiking trails are embedded in the ground. At the end of the dead-end street, we turn left; there is also a sign here that reads “Circular.” Where the path ends at the intersection, we cross it, heading slightly to the right onto the opposite, ascending concrete road. At the stone wall, we take the path that ascends slightly to the right at the fork. At a gray garage door, we ignore the road branching off to the left, follow the road as it curves to the left, until the road ends and we continue on a rocky path. We cross the acequia and turn right. On the paved road that follows, we walk a short distance uphill to the right and then leave the road to the right before a stone wall, joining Trail 02. In a long, sweeping left curve, we walk around a stone wall, continuing along a fence to a threshing floor with an information sign. At the level of a road, we cross the acequia once more to reach the path that continues onward. Shortly after passing an old, gnarled chestnut tree, take the path leading slightly to the left and follow it to its end. The concrete road that follows ends at a gravel path; here, walk a few meters to the left and then immediately to the right uphill. The road turns into a path. Cross a concrete road to the left. At the next concrete road, we keep to the right, walk through the 180° left-hand curve, and come to a white house and a huge chestnut tree. Here we turn right and now follow the course of the 03 Acequia Montalbán along a very long stretch of trail. At another information sign, we ignore the path leading uphill to the left. A steep section follows—slightly exposed in one spot—which requires a head for heights and sure footing. After a water retention basin, the path along the water pipeline briefly becomes steeper. We pass a small waterfall. After a short stretch below a rock face, we reach the 04 Rio Lanjarón. Under shady trees, you can cool your feet in the dammed-up stream. We continue on our way and, at the fork, take the path slightly to the right. Another monumental chestnut tree stands by the side of the trail. At the fork, both paths lead to our destination. At the crossroads, we turn right and then immediately keep to the left. A historic path, which provides access to the higher-lying properties, now leads down into the valley. After a long descent, we ignore a path branching off to the left. Finally, the trail joins a 05 track. Where the paved road begins, we turn sharply right and, after a short descent, reach the main street through Lanjarón. Following it to the right, we reach the start and finish point 01 Lanjarón.

Petite randonnée très sympathique. Pas beaucoup de dénivelé ni de distance, mais pour se faire une journée de détente c'est parfait. Au milieu des jardins et des Acequia qui sont les levadas de Madère a la sauce Andalouse, c'est très agréable
