Tranquil hill hike between the Uerke and Suhre r iversExtensive hilly landscapes spread out between the numerous larger and smaller rivers that run through the cantons of Lucerne and Aargau, including between the narrow Uerken and wide Suhrental valleys. The name "Uerknerberg" is actually reserved for a single one of the rather inconspicuous peaks, but it can also be used to describe the entire range of hills. It is mostly wooded, but here and there we also have a clear view to the north towards the Jura or to the south towards the Alps.

Approach to the Pile Dwellers This circular hike is dedicated to the Wauwilermoos and the prehistoric pile dwelling settlements that were discovered there during peat mining in the eighteenth century. In the meantime, three pile dwelling houses have been reconstructed near the Wauwil train station, and an educational trail introduces the culture and living conditions of their inhabitants. But this area also has a lot to offer for nature lovers, as the protected moor landscapes are home to the last large lapwing colony in Switzerland.

Very beautiful hike around Lake Mauensee. Can be done at any time. On the tour around Lake Mauensee, there are various benches to enjoy the beautiful view. And to observe nature. Can also be done on foot with children (from 8 years old) and can also be done with a stroller. Highlights of the hike I experienced are as follows: - Great tour around the whole Lake Mauensee, as well as a beautiful view of the lake, small but really nice. - Mauensee Castle, even if you cannot visit it, it is still very nice to see. Here is a small summary about Mauensee Castle. Mauensee Castle was first mentioned in the years 1184/1190. At that time the castle as well as the lake were listed in the register of Engelberg Monastery as Moginse. From the 13th century come the first evidence of a castle on the largest of the four islands, possibly founded by the barons of Büron who then owned half of the lake. The other half of the castle and water belonged to the barons of Grünenberg. It is not certain whether the castle was destroyed by the Swiss Confederates in 1388. However, it is documented that the lake and island came into the possession of Lucerne in 1455. Two years later, the estate was sold again and subsequently changed hands several times. The current castle was built in 1605 by mayor Michael Schnyder. Ownership changed several times over the following centuries, but the castle and island are still privately owned today. The following people have ever owned Mauensee Castle: In 1275, the castle was partly owned by the Habsburgs 1455 owned by the Council of Lucerne 1457 the seat was sold to Hans Ulrich Snider, now mayor Several transfers of ownership occurred in between 1721 Count Rudolf Riva acquired the lordship of Mauensee Several transfers of ownership occurred in between 1807 the Pfyffer family of Altishofen were owners 1811 the merchant family Jakob Eggstein from Zofingen acquired the castle In 1875 the property was sold to Count August de Pourtalès from Neuchâtel and Bern In 1942 castle and lake came into the possession of Karl von Schumacher After his death, his brother Dr. Pierre von Schumacher took over the castle After his passing, it went to his widow Charlotte von Schumacher-Specker Since 1998 privately owned by the Sigg family Important: This hike starts directly from the public parking lot.
