Extensive hilly landscapes spread out between the numerous larger and smaller rivers that run through the cantons of Lucerne and Aargau, including between the narrow Uerken and wide Suhrental valleys. The name "Uerknerberg" is actually reserved for a single one of the rather inconspicuous peaks, but it can also be used to describe the entire range of hills. It is mostly wooded, but here and there we also have a clear view to the north towards the Jura or to the south towards the Alps.
The starting point for today's hike is in Holziken at the bus stop "Abzweigung Bändli". We take the panoramic road (with a view of the Jura) and follow it into the forest, where the well-marked path continues to gain altitude. Past two forest huts and over the flat Oberlegi to the Stübisberg, from where our gaze wanders to the Alps for the first time, for example to the Pilatus or the Titlis. On varied forest paths and always in a roughly southerly direction, we continue over the actual Uerknerberg and the Schwarzhuserebni to the main road between Bottenwil and Wittwil. The next section also leads via Sattelhof to Kalthof, also known as "Uf de Chalt", mostly through forest. From the nearby triangulation point (P. 669), you have a view over large parts of the Jura. The route now continues relatively flat at first until we descend via a hollow path to a barbecue area above Reitnau with great views.
