From Mreg, a panoramic high-altitude hike leads up the valley to the beautiful Alp Jeshnicë and on to the Metohisë pass. Alp Greben can be reached comfortably through meadows and forest or via a more strenuous but very panoramic high-level hike. From here, a steep descent takes us to the next stage destination in Vermosh.

Our first destination, Mreg, is located on a terrace with an overwhelming view, high above the valley of the Cem river. This wonderful, year-round inhabited alp is only accessible by foot or horse. The longer route leads through a side valley to a lovely waterfall and on to Mreg. The shorter mule track leads up in serpentines and over a rocky cliff.

Vajusha Peak is located near the village of Lepushe, in Kelmendi region of Malesia e Madhe, the most vivid embodiment of the very name they bear, The Great Highland. If you ask me personally which is the most beautiful trail of this province, undoubtedly I will mention this one. The alternation of green meadows, separated by a border as if drawn by human hands with rocks stripped of vegetation creates a very surreal feeling.

Great stage! The Komovi Mountains are really impressive, the hike to the beautiful summit of the Kom Kucki is a bit challenging, but doable. For the descent to Vermosh, I found a more logical approach than the original route - it follows a cow path between the ruins of Katun Orahovska and the ruins of Katun Redzica, instead of going around. You can download a gpx-track with extra explanation in some waypoints @ https://drive.google.com/file/d/1q-18OBlTrwnKOiU3pqP_cd3zW_qZKFfk. I also made a detailed description of the descent - download it @ https://drive.google.com/file/d/18U6wM5thb73lTcji2BVRHLFtKcpr7gp4.

We did the hike on the beginning of June 2025 from Albania to Montenegro. The hike is easy to find until the border, we followed a track. After we tried to follow the advice of Jean-Marc from the previous comment with GPS, there was no way anymore. It was quite hard because it was quite steep and with brushes, but ok. We found the path back at Katun Dediča. Then it was a really beautiful hike and easy. The last go down to Stanva is a little bit long and physical (going up and down above the forest) but not major difficulties.

This hike was beautiful. We did it at the end of may 2025 from Theth to Nikč. The climb was hard because it was steep but not technical. We had snow on the top, but on flat parts so it was not a problem. Then for the going down to Theth it was ok until the split of the way around 1350m. We tried to follow the path on the right (which joins the road Nikč to Lepushe) but after 15 minutes, we lost the trail (around 1250m). So we came back and we took the other path on the left (which is well market at the split) but shortly after 10 minutes, there is no trail anymore. You have to follow a direction with your GPS during 1h/1h30 and walk in the brush and over dead trees.

Stage done at the beginning of August 2024: After a view minutes on the road, there was a marked hiking trail already mentioned in previous comments. It started to the right after the wooden Komovi park sign. It was good to walk and get away from the cars on the “main” road. The only water I found in Štavna was next to the upper road towards the start of the hiking trails below the picnic place. From Katun Štavna, I made a round trip: starting on the marked path to the left towards Varda to reach Koliba Carine and went back along the VD towards Kom Kučki junction and back to Trešnjevik. I cannot comment on Kom Kučki as I skipped it after reading in previous comments that it is a bit more exposed and I did not want to climb it alone. I did not like the section at the edge of the forest after the descent from Kučki junction (direction Carine to Štavna) because it was very narrow, right at the edge and partly overgrown. Made it a bit unsafe for me with my big backpack. On the whole round trip, I didn’t find water (also not the spring close to the Koliba Carine). I took water from the mountain river that I crossed coming from Varda direction. As there were cows roaming, I filtered it to be on the safe side. The Koliba looked nice inside.

Hiking NB. Completed Sept. 27-28. From Vermosh, the climb to Carine hut was taxing. No real route up, was pushing through bushes and brush. It sounds like there's an alternative that people below have mentioned...I hadn't read these yet. After you climb and catch the Montenegran mountain highway (CT-1, all gravel road) for 5-6kms to Carine. Carine hut is in great condition for how remote it is. Big thanks to the host who keeps it up. There was even wood and a starter set out on the stove when I arrived (even rakija in the pantry for those in need). Water just 2-3 min walk from the hut. One of the more beautiful night skies on a clear night. Highly recommend staying in Carine if you can. From Carine to Komovi: After a short but steep ascent neat the top of Carine mountain, you start climbing down to Komovi. More technical descent than I had anticipated. After a 1.5-2hr descent, you get to Komovi. I didn't stay in Komovi but even in late September there seemed to be plenty of accommodation or camping space.

Hiking NB, started on Sept. 27. I just completed the Peaks of the Balkans and continued northwest from Plav to Gusinje. Hitched a ride to Gusinje before starting hiking across to Vermosh. This hike was really challenging. Practically no trail to follow after the gravel roads ends..just hiking through the woods and using GPS to get through. Spent most of the time pushing through trees and bushes. The last descent to catch the road to Vermosh was dangerous -- winding two way road. Recommend just hitching a ride through and skipping this portion.

Fantastic hike. You meet a lot of international hikers. You have to be prepared, it is steep and the elevation gain requires over 1,000 m / 30,000 feet of climbing and you cover 2 km / 1.3 miles on narrow, steep ridges. We saw that a lot of people were a little overwhelmed by it. Sturdy shoes, sticks, weather observation and an early start are recommended.
