The best Schauinsland in the Innsbruck WestAs the eastern cornerstone of the Kühtai or Northern Sellrain Mountains, Rosskogel offers a fantastic view, especially of the Innsbruck central area. From there, its pointed silhouette already stands out, making the mountain a popular climb. Specifically, the most beautiful ascent route, the North Ridge, naturally requires an experienced mountaineer. We can even enrich the tour with two small extras: one is Kögele (also called Sellrainer Sonnberg) – a worthwhile alternative for less experienced hikers – and the other is the extensive summit of Rangger Köpfl, which near the popular Rosskogel hut offers an easily accessible lodge in the Inn valley.

Forward Standing Box Seat on the Peter-Anich-HöhensteigActually, the Rauhe Kopf is not an independent peak, but only a "little head" on the long northern ridge of the Peiderspitze. But what a viewpoint over the Upper Inn Valley! The tour from Flaurlingberg admittedly starts monotonously, but gradually improves towards the Flaurlinger Joch. You need quite a long breath! And instead of a prestigious destination, here awaits "only" the solitary panorama view and the discovery of a farmer-shaped landscape. By the way, the Rauhe Kopf is also located on the little-trod Peter-Anich-Höhensteig, which later leads us down to the Flaurlinger Alm.

The idyllic alpine pasture in the HundstalThe area around the Inzinger Alm is a popular excursion destination above the Inntal valley, not least for mountain bikers who like to pedal up the forest road. Between May 15 and October 31, it is even allowed to drive with a car to within a few minutes' walk of the hut – perhaps worth considering if a longer tour is planned in this basin, for example to Rauher Kopf, to the secluded Hundstalsee, a round via the Schützensteig, or the connection to the Rosskogelhütte. With the alpine pasture as the destination, of course, we tie our hiking boots already down below...

Extensive valley route from Oberperfuss to OberhofenThose who do not automatically think of mountain hikes when venturing into the heart of Tyrol can also discover attractive routes at lower altitudes. One of these is the path named after the cartographer Peter Anich (1723–66) between Oberperfuss and Oberhofen. Anich lived in Oberperfuss and became famous mainly for the "Atlas Tyrolensis", one of the most significant scientific achievements of his time. The route, measuring a total of five hours on foot, offers beautiful views from the picturesque mid-mountain terraces south of the Inn. The focus is on the southwestern corner of the Karwendel and the Mieming Chain with the dominant Hohe Munde.
