The "Grenzgänger" is a multi-day route in the Allgäu Alps. The core feature is the constant crossing of the Austrian and German border between the Tannheimer Valley, Hintersteiner Valley, and Lech Valley. The circuit around the Hochvogel as well as the visit to the well-known Schrecksee are only two of the highlights. Several of the highest waterfalls in Germany (stage 5 and 6) await the hiker, as well as a gloomy north face (stage 2), a mountain that splits (stage 5), extensive flower meadows, and magnificent panoramas.

Forecast for Hinterhornbach

10-day forecast
The Hinterhornbach region offers a variety of hiking options for all levels of difficulty. Whether experienced hikers or families with children - everyone will find their suitable route here. The picturesque landscape with its green meadows, dense forests and majestic mountains makes hiking an unforgettable experience.

One of the most popular hiking tours leads to the Gufelsee, an idyllic mountain lake at 1,800 metres above sea level. The path there is well signposted and offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. Another recommended route leads to the Hornbachspitze, the highest point in the Hinterhornbach area. From there you have an impressive panoramic view over the Lechtal.

Hikes along the Hornbach, a wildly romantic mountain river that flows through the valley, are also particularly charming. Here you can take a leisurely stroll along the banks or daringly plunge into the cool water.

The best seasons for hiking in Hinterhornbach are spring and summer, when the temperatures are pleasantly mild and nature is in full bloom. In autumn, the forests turn into a sea of colour and provide an enchanting backdrop for hikes.

There are also numerous child-friendly hiking routes for families with children. The nature trail "Waldwunder", for example, offers exciting information about the local flora and fauna and is thus ideal for learning more about nature in a playful way.

I did it on the other direction. "Rulking" (running and walking) took me 4 hours. Saw marmots, a steinadler (golden eagle) and beautiful rock formations. A very complet alpine tour!
