Exciting Finale: along the border ridge to the Côte VermeilleIn the first part of the stage, we can look forward to some top-notch pass and summit hopping. Since the peaks here generally rise only about 100 meters above the respective cols, the two small peaks today are quite manageable. Until the last rise at Puig de Sallfort, we mostly hike on the left side of the main ridge, close to the French-Spanish border. At Puig de Sallfort, the border finally leaves us to the south and we begin the final descent, which challenges our last reserves with around 1000 meters of elevation loss and rising temperatures. Finally, through the sun-kissed vineyards, we reach Banyuls-sur-Mer, the destination of our Pyrenees crossing. The obligatory swim in the Mediterranean washes away sweat (and tears). Even though we might need a little time to comprehend what is behind us and to settle into the hustle and bustle of beach holidaymakers...
