Exciting hike to the highest mountain in the province of AlicanteThe impressive Sierra de Aitana stretches from inland to near the sea. After a long approach on a forest path on the northern slope of the mountain massif past old snow pits, a short but almost alpine ascent leads to the summit. The descent leads to the Simas de Partagat, a bizarre area of deep crevices (sp. simas) in the limestone, and then squeezes through the adventurous Passet de la Rabosa crevice.

However, we have to hike to see it on sometimes rough paths through the fascinatingly deserted mountain world of the Sierra de Serrella. At altitudes of over 1200 m, the area around the 1379 m high Pla de la Casa offers breathtaking views through the deeply incised Guadalest valley to the sea and the mountainous surrounding countryside.

The "classic" ascent to the roof of the Costa BlancaOn this tour, we only reach the slightly lower eastern summit of the Sierra de Aitana, but we experience the mountain range in all its rugged beauty. To the north, it drops steeply into the Guadalest valley. Block fields bear witness to huge rockfalls. In February/March, white and pink almond blossoms contrast with the bare, gray rock, in autumn sycamore maples blaze red and orange on the scree slopes, in some winters the Aitana is covered in a thick blanket of snow. On the south side, the bare limestone slopes, interspersed only with flat bushes, grasses and the occasional holm oak, fall away in broad ramps. On the ridge hike from the summit, we have a view of both facets.

Especially don't forget to also explore the beautiful village of Confrides. After Confrides, it goes back towards Abdet via a beautiful path that was once used by animals. This last path was well maintained at the beginning of 2023.

Nice circular walk with a steady climb that is not really difficult anywhere for the experienced (mountain) hiker. In this area, some dirt paths gradually disappear and you sometimes walk on asphalt. However, the beautiful views and the stunning surroundings ensure that this is not disturbing. A walk to fully enjoy. Also, be sure to look up regularly, the chance to see the griffon vultures flying here is very high. The ruins of the castle are also visitable, people with acrophobia might better skip this part.
