Nature reserve "In den Eichen" with Heidbrinker gravel pondThe partly pronounced meanders of the Weser create a wonderful interplay of convex and concave banks, as geographers call the typical outer and inner bends. The nature reserve "In den Eichen" near Reileifzen is located in such a river loop. Those who like to observe waterfowl will find ample opportunity to do so at the Heidbrinker gravel pond. Besides, it's also quite charming to stroll along the Weser for a while.

From Bevern via the Eversteine to ArholzenThe Burgberg near Bevern is also counted among the eastern ridges of the Weser Uplands. We start directly at the famous castle, a prime example of Weser Renaissance, and initially encounter a tower building on the ridge: Station No. 28 of the Royal Prussian Optical Telegraph Line, which was established from 1832 between Berlin and Koblenz. It was used for transmitting official messages and represented a tremendous advance over earlier messenger and courier services at the time. After a possible detour to the so-called orchid meadow, where remarkable lady's slipper orchid occurrences can be found, another special feature awaits us at the two Eversteine: here, the eponymous countly family founded a two-part hill castle in the 12th century, of which only little remains. After the Burgberg, we extend the tour into a generous loop, touching the villages of Negenborn and Arholzen and crossing back to Bevern along the northern edge of the Solling.

Scenic hike in the southern part of the VoglerIn a ranking of the most beautifully situated Weser villages, Rühle would surely hold one of the top spots. The interplay of the river bend and the striking relief at the foothills of the Vogler unfolds a strong expressiveness, especially when viewed from the vineyard. With this fabulous viewpoint at the Herzog-Wilhelm monument and the wonderful paths in its area, our extensive tour through the Rühler Schweiz is to begin. The name is no coincidence, as the landscape between Rühle, Golmbach, Holenberg, and Reileifzen exudes a very special charm in the interplay between wooded hills and open meadows. During the tour, we also visit the Holenberg vineyard, where the Amelungsborn monks once also attempted viticulture – rather unsuccessfully – complete the traverse at the Großer Schweineberg and the finale at Hang- and Spielberg, thus closing the circle towards Rühle from a changed perspective. It is said that the most beautiful time in the Rühler Schweiz is around late April when the cherry trees and sloe bushes are in bloom. Then the popular Cherry Blossom Festival also takes place in Golmbach and Reileifzen.

This is a section of a stage hike that would lead in a wide loop from Eschershausen via the birthplace of Wilhelm Raabe.  Certainly a year-round hike if you do not want to experience the blooming lady's slipper. It is a scenic hike that offers a lot of landscape and, with the early Cistercian monastery and castle, much to see on the described section. The further route, not described here, leads via Holzminden and Höxter on to Fürstenberg.

The Braunschweig Jakobsweg - that is 270 kilometers of diverse landscape between Magdeburg, Helmstedt, Braunschweig, Hildesheim, and Höxter. It leads through the flat Börde over the ridges of Ith and Hils into the Weserbergland. "From water to water" – the path leads from the Elbe over Oker, Leine, and Aller to the Weser – and "from cathedral to cathedral and monastery to monastery." Thus, the Magdeburg Cathedral is as much a station as those in Königslutter or Hildesheim. Along the way, there are also 47 pilgrimage churches, and with Marienborn, one of the oldest pilgrimage sites in Germany is touched, as the holy spring of the same name was attributed a healing effect from the 12th century onwards. In between lies a charming landscape, with the hilly Magdeburg Börde, the Elm mountain range, the flat Hildesheim region with its wide sky, and finally the Weserbergland. But the path also connects East and West "and has reminded since the 25th year after the fall of the Berlin Wall of the precious treasure of peace" – and is an "ecumenical symbol with great power" that connects the Catholic dioceses with the Protestant regional churches.
