A rugged mountain world with breathtaking views high above CalpAt just 587 m high, Monte Oltà is certainly no giant. But its location between the coast near Calp and the foothills of the Sierra de Bèrnia makes it a premium viewpoint. Its barren plateau, covered by a deeply furrowed limestone carpet, is of rough, almost alpine beauty. One should be sure-footed for the detour to the subsidiary peak La Mola, 537 m: all around, the rock walls drop vertically, while the entire coast from far north to deep south lies at your feet. Even the 332 m high Peñón de Ifach shrinks to the size of a pebble. With some luck, you will have the scenic spot under the Pinet, the gnarled pine high above Calp, all to yourself for a rest.

Through the famous "hole" in the mountain ridgeThe Sierra de Bèrnia stretches over 11 km from Callosa d’En Sarria to the coast between Calp and Altea. Its 1126 m high peak is considered the closest "vertical kilometer" to the coast on the entire Iberian Peninsula. Clouds often get caught on the almost 5 km long picturesque jagged main ridge and rain down on one side or the other. The main attraction of the tour is the Forat de Bèrnia, a natural rock tunnel about 20 m long through the mountain. Its south exit frames the view of the Altea Bay and the Sierra Helada like a theater curtain. From there, we hike along the sunny south slope under the picturesque ridge to the Fort de Bèrnia. Finally, a scenic path and a beautiful, shady forest trail await. A very popular hike!

Very close to Calpe / Calp is this 6.7km circular trail around the Serra d’Oltà mountain. It’s a perfect introduction to the Costa Blanca outdoors and it can be walked or biked any time of year. There are gorgeous sweeping inland and sea views as well as pine forests along the trail.

Nice circular walk that is nowhere really difficult. Beautiful views, lovely nature. Do wear good footwear due to the stony paths.
Also see the other variants of this walk. Note that since 2024 there is extensive construction work for a new urbanization. Many old paths are no longer or not easily accessible, we did this walk in mid-November 2024 without encountering any problems.
