The most beautiful hikes in Ardèche
Ardèche: of river valleys and vineyards
The beautiful department in the south-east of France is characterized not least by the eponymous river Ardèche. Fantastic hikes are possible along the banks of the river and along the gorges as well as through the picturesque landscape of the vineyards. In addition to the Ardèche, the Chassezac and La Baume are also idyllic rivers that are perfect for excursions.
A beautiful, moderately difficult tour takes you on a circular route along the banks of the Chassezac for almost 8 kilometers. Hiking along the river loop offers wonderful views and, as part of the trail leads through oak forest, the tour is also easy to do in summer when temperatures are higher. And if it does get too warm: Pack your swimsuit and cool off in the river!
Scenic hike at a river bend of the Chassezac through stone oak forest past curious rock formations and along the river. Wonderful views of the ...
Explore villages and towns in Ardèche
A wonderful hike in the south of the département takes you through vineyards and fruit trees, as well as to the villages of Naves and Brahic. This circular hiking trail leads through the Monts d'Ardèche nature park across a varied landscape. This tour is particularly recommended in the fall, when the vineyards and fruit trees are harvested and the chestnuts are ripe. In addition, as this tour does not pass through the main tourist attractions, it is rather quiet and less crowded. The ideal hike to enjoy nature in peace and quiet. At the end of the hike, Les Vans is also a good place to stop for a bite to eat.
Les Vens is also the starting point for a panoramic tour that takes you along the eastern edge of the Cévennes. In addition to fantastic views of the Cévennes foothills, you can look forward to holm oak and chestnut forests as well as the idyllic hamlet of Brahic.
Hikes through fascinating rock formations
If you hike along the Ardèche and through its gorges, you will be treated to an impressive spectacle of nature: sloping rock formations and impressive gorges, most notably the Gorges de l'Ardèche, will delight every hiker.
The easy tour along the Ardèche near Balazuc, for example, takes you along bizarrely shaped rocks and offers the best places to stop for refreshments at the end of the hike, especially in Balazuc. The small village of Balazuc is always worth a visit: here you will find traces of inhabitants from the Stone Age to antiquity and the Middle Ages.
But you will also find wonderful hikes along La Baume. The circular tour around the Baume between Labeaume and Rosieres is a little more challenging, but offers fantastic views and swimming opportunities.
