After Plittersdorf, we enter the Rastatt floodplain landscape with its unique fauna and flora. Landscape-wise, we move through one of the last primeval forests in Europe. Many rare animals are offered a safe refuge with the possibility to survive. Rare plants have settled on the most diverse soils and natural conditions or lead an isolated life here, protected by the Baden-Württemberg state nature conservation authority.
How does the picture change when we move from the biotope into the human-shaped biosphere: the Rhine, canalized; logged forests, agricultural landscapes - but not dead.
Hikers are advised to take a minute or two to perceive and internalize the many impressions.

Parallel to Karlsruhe Baden Airport, we experience a pristine landscape that has only been changed by human intervention in nature.
The parking lot at the Hügelsheimer NATO Rampe /Polderinfopfad Söllingen Greffern is the starting point. After a few meters, follow the information trail directly into the alluvial forest. Impressive in its diversity, in its originality, we are drawn into the spell of fascination. We penetrate deep into the alluvial forest like the primeval river Rhine. Experience and enjoyment are the order of the day: fauna and flora alternate constantly as we follow the Rhine lowland canal until we reach Söllingen. The Vogelsee, a paradise for water birds, is circumnavigated. The campsite of the municipality of Söllingen, located on the Hanfsee, forms the backdrop until the view of the open cultural landscape with distant views of the Black Forest offers us a wonderful panorama.
The Kriegersee, used for industrial purposes, is used to extract sand and gravel. It accompanies us as far as the high embankment of the Rhine with its impressive flora. Following the Rhine almost as far as the Iffezheim barrage, we say goodbye and head back into the alluvial forest. (Incidentally, the alluvial forest in its present form was only created by the straightening of the Rhine. Before that, it consisted more of shrubs and low trees).
We return to our starting point on the old Tulla dam.

Beautiful local tour in Middle Baden. Today Uschi came along. That's why I included sights: The Aalschocker Heini, and of course Baden Baden. In early summer, the rose garden in Beutig is the event in Baden Baden. The view and the splendor of the roses is simply magnificent. The climb with the bike is definitely worth it.

After the holidays, I just had to get back on the bike today. Indoor cycling is driving me crazy. Especially since continuous rain is forecast for tomorrow again. The headwind on the way on the Rhine dam was already fierce. But that's why I have a motor with me. The dam renovation project is now finished up to about 500 m in Illingen. It looks good, it is also very rideable, very fine compacted gravel was used as the surface. The dam defense path is designed the same way. The joy that almost everything is finished is great, but internally I have the following questions: Why was no asphalt chosen as the final surface at all? In Alsace and the Palatinate, in the rest of the Pamina region, all bike paths are paved with asphalt, and it is durable. In Middle Baden, compacted gravel is used. When the first timber transports from the floodplain forest are done, the dam will then have driving lanes. We also have clever personnel in our administrations who think they know everything better. In the Ried, I wished Heini (the eelpout in Wintersdorf) all the best for the new year. The foresters there have completely shaved off all the pollarded willows. Yes, they need it, and they grow back quickly anyway. I was quickly in the spa town of B. Baden over Iffezheim. As often before, I refreshed myself at Leopoldsplatz. I like going to Peter's good bakery. I have never been disappointed there. I rode backwards again via Balg, and then over the Eberbach to Haueneberstein and on to Schloss Favorit. In Kuppenheim I was able to catch a few sun rays again and therefore decided to add a detour via Rotenfels Winkel to Malsch. The tailwind blew me to Ettlingenweier and Bruchhausen. Through the Hardtwald, the hometown was reached relatively quickly. In the end, I am glad that today I was able to really feel the wind blowing around my nose again. That was really necessary again.

Great weather today, almost the entire team was present. Goal? Of course, Deutsches Weintor, Bernd Pfeffer's Schorle umbrella.
An experience, with a wonderful finale at the Rhine ferry.
