The smallest town in Italy is located in South Tyrol, more precisely in the Vinschgau. It is completely surrounded by a town wall, which can also be walked on. Glurns lies picturesque on the Adige river, and the Via Claudia Augusta also passes by. Those coming via Reschen should make a short stop, enjoy an ice cream or an espresso, and take this small tour through Glurns.

Inspired by the Ortler Bike Marathon, the three of us wanted to tackle this route over a normal weekend.
We could easily do without the time pressure and the hordes of cyclists. Of course, some sections run through private property and are therefore closed. Thus, the route was adjusted accordingly on the way.
Here you see the result.
From Glurns it was uphill only (about 80% paved, the rest gravel or forest and meadow paths).
Up to 2242 meters above sea level, it was really uphill all the way except for 3-4 negative meters.
A short stop at the mountain restaurant for a cola and then we continued.
We were finally able to relax a bit around Lake Pfaffensee and actually soak up some sun.
Now came a very nice flowing trail section, peppered with one or two muddy spots. Awesome.
The ascent above Lake Haider was denied to us, so we continued on and settled for a round around Lake Reschen. With massive headwind, we now painfully made our way south again along the busy road. At the end of Lake Haider, we wanted to enter the slope on the left. But there too, private property. Therefore, we rode right on the bike path through the apple orchards back to Glurns at the starting point.
Just before Glurns, we were still caught by the rain from the irrigation systems. They hit us from all sides. But so hard.
It was a great round all in all.
