Dalriada Slug Road Loop

Ride through town and head up to the A957, following National Cycle Route 1 signs. The route ascends steadily through wooded countryside. Expect around 100 m of climbing, reaching the summit near Durris Forest at approximately 8.8 miles in. Enjoy lovely views over Deeside and the Mournes as you climb. Just off the summit are entrances to Durris Forest trails – a hotspot for mountain biking or a scenic detour up Cairn‑mon‑earn. After the climb, there's a fast descent with sweeping, scenic views. You’ll pass through quiet country roads, cross the River Dee near Banchory, and roll into Crathes village. Crathes Castle & Gardens is just east of the village, with Milton of Crathes craft shops and cafés nearby – perfect for a pit stop before heading back to Stonehaven.
