Ufficio Turistico Manciano
In front of the Due Cippi restaurant, hidden underneath the footpath, is a Roman-era spa. This spa was paved with a mosaic of white and black tiles. Fish and part of a sea horse have been salvaged from the albeit destroyed mosaic. The restaurant also has two spectacular stone columns with Latin engravings. These are all that’s left of two of Saturnia’s most important Roman residents. One of the columns held a statue of Didio Saturnino, to whom part of the municipal of Saturnia was dedicated in the 2nd century. He was a centurion commander with military honours (Armillae and Torques) in the war against the Parthians and in the German war. He then received a civic crown and a silver rod from Antoninus and Severus.
The other column held the statue of the Sixth Mecio Marcello, gifted to him by the pagis Lucretius, the residents of a town under the control of Saturnia. He was the duumviri of Saturnia, superintendent of the calendar and food. He was also overseer of the pagis Lucretius and its benefactor.
FOUNTAIN
This dates back to 1913, when the Fiora Aqueduct was inaugurated, bringing water to the entire municipality.
PUBLIC GARDENS
In the public garden are numerous Latin epigraphs from the late Republican to Imperial age, bearing the usual invocations to Dei Mani, along with some olive oil millstones. These pieces have been collected over the years from the countryside around Saturnia, making it difficult to determine their original locations. On the margins of the garden is a section of undeveloped terrain where archaeologists recently unearthed traces of Etruscan relics from the 4th century BC, as well as Roman, Medieval and Renaissance ruins. The ruins of the ancient Chiesa di San Biagio can also be found here.
