Cabane de Moiry

The Moiry hut has to be on the short list for most beautiful huts in the Alps.  The location is absolutely spectacular, high above Grimentz in the Val d'Anniviers at 2825 meters, surrounded by glaciers and rugged mountains, and looking down to the turquoise Moiry reservoir.  This is a great stop on the Hiker's Haute Route, although also a little bit of a detour, so many people skip it.  We think it's worth the effort though.  These are the kinds of detours we love to discover and pass along to our clients.

The Moiry hut is a 1½ uphill hike from the reservoir, along the crest a glacial moraine wall and across a steep slope that often holds snow late into the summer.  The hut itself was renovated in 2010, and it is beautiful, with large picture windows that accentuate the glacier views, and thoughtful 4-person dorms.  The wardens Lidia and Yvon always do a nice job.  Always highly recommended.
