Winter hikes in Hesse

Only about an hour away from Willingen, the idyllic Edersee lake invites you to take beautiful walks. The Eder flows from the Rothaargebirge mountains via the reservoir into the Fulda. On the eastern bank, an imposing wall over 100 years old borders the reservoir.

Around the lake, beautiful winter hiking trails in a dreamlike setting await you, mostly surrounded by idyllic forests and mountains.

In addition to hikes along beautiful lakes such as the Edersee, the various riverbanks are also ideal for leisurely winter walks that require little physical fitness. For example, you can walk along the Rhine, the Lahn or the Wisper.

In the south-west of Hesse, the 12-kilometre loop in the Taunus region offers a mixture of sporting challenge and tobogganing fun, surrounded by idyllic winter nature.

The trail leads up to the Grosse Feldberg and Kleine Feldberg.

The trail leads to the Great and the Small Feldberg. At 881 metres, the Great Feldberg is the highest mountain in the Taunus. After the two Feldberg peaks, the neighbouring peak Altkönig is the third highest mountain in the Taunus and can be reached from Falkenstein.

On the tour you get a beautiful view of the White Wall, a quartzite field on the Altkönig. After your hike, you can visit the nearby Kronberg Castle in the town of the same name.

The three peaks – Großer Feldberg, Kleiner Feldberg and Altkönig – form the heart of the Hohe Taunus.

Besides the beautiful peaks of the Taunus, numerous other mountains await you, such as the Hoherodskopf, which lies in the area of the Vogelsberg.
