Viewpoint in Portalegre

From the viewpoint you can see the lithological alteration embodied by the tectonized granites of Portalegre. 

Alto de São Mamede, also called Miradouro de São Mamede, has the highest point in this mountain range (maximum altitude - 1025m). 

Built in 1570, in the golden age of the Portuguese Renaissance , the Chapel of N. Srª da Penha was designed with a trapezoidal nave joined to a restangular sacristy and a circular main chapel lined with 17th-century ceramic tiles in a blue-white-yellow pattern. 

Precious place to admire the historical and architectonic chronology of Castelo de Vide: 

Part of the fortification built on the 17th century, also known as “Meio-Baluarte da Morena”, connecting the Meio-Baluarte do Cipresteiro to the Forte de São Roque. 

A very pleasant place, where it is possible to admire a remarkable view to the Serra de S. Paulo (with the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Penha on top), and to the fields surrounding the town. Here, there is a garden and a picnic spot.

From here, we admire the Serra de São Paulo, where the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Penha stands out. Built in 1570, at an altitude of 750m, it is a little Baroque style temple, with glazed tiles from the 17th century.

Precious place to admire the town of Castelo de Vide and the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Penha, on the top of the Serra de São Paulo.

Stunning view covering the village of Portagem, with the pleasant leisure centre. We can also observe the highest point of Serra de S. Mamede at 1025m altitude.
