The Siriu Mountains are among the most sought-after mountains in Romania, not so much for the jaw-dropping views from their ridges or for the spectacular landscapes, but for accessibility and outdoor activities. The wild nature of these mountains attracts hikers looking for easy trails with unique landscapes, as well as cyclists, fishermen, or off-road enthusiasts. The possibility of coming face-to-face with a bear is high in the Siriu Massif, so get ready for a real adventure!

Beyond Vulturilor Lake
In recent years, the Siriu Mountains have become synonymous with Siriu Dam and Vulturilor Lake (Vultures' Lake), which are the main attractions in the area. The dam's viaducts, as well as its surroundings - viewpoints and campsites - make the subject of many extremely photogenic pics. On the other hand, Vulturilor Lake (or Bottomless Lake) is the preferred destination for hikers looking for moderate to easy trails or those who want an idyllic place to pitch their tent.

The one-day hiking trails in the Siriu Mountains are extremely popular for mountaineers in southern and eastern Romania. Especially since they are an alternative to the much more crowded mountain destinations in Valea Prahovei. The classic starting points for hiking are Crasna, Cabana Valea Neagră or Lunca Jariștei. The relatively moderate heights of these mountains (1662m - Vf. Mâlâia, 1657m - Vf. Siriu/Bocârnea) might turn out as deceiving;, but challenges can be overcome if you have enough water, some snacks, a good mood and the ideal group of friends!
The longer routes via Mreaja, Milea or Crasna valleys are wild, with demanding climbs, crossing uneven paths or bordering steep valleys and ravines, with thick bushes and impenetrable forests - and all the more unique. Sheepfolds are part of the natural landscape here. Near Colții Balei, with a little luck, you can see chamois.

Siriu Mountains by bike or in a kayak
Trained cyclists venture here on the same routes as hikers. The alpine area has almost perfect bike paths, though somewhat spoiled by the ATVs or enduro motorcycles that frequently climb to the plateau from Lunca Jariștei. For the descent, you have a tough downhill trail!
Water sports and adventure enthusiasts have several options: admiring Lake Siriu from a kayak, rafting on Buzău, plus Via Ferrata, rappelling, or ziplining in the surrounding rocky -areas known by professional tour organizers.
