In the Safiental, an alpine side valley of the Surselva, unspoilt nature, tranquillity and an enchanting landscape are the constant companions of outdoor activities. The valley is characterized by the typical Walser scattered settlements with brown houses, barns, hay barns and alpine huts as well as the rustic dialect of the Safiental people.
The Safiental also includes the unique Rhine Gorge with its rock faces up to 300 m high. The Safiental also lies within the perimeter of the Beverin Nature Park.

Valendas, Versam, Tenna, Safien Platz and Thalkirch together form the municipality of Safiental in the Beverin Nature Park. All the villages and their associated hamlets have one thing in common - they are located in a beautiful spot on earth.
You won't find any hustle and bustle in Safiental. Instead, you will find soothing tranquillity and a unique natural and cultural landscape. The scattered settlements, with their old Walser houses and numerous stables and huts, give the valley an unmistakable character. In contrast, Valendas is home to magnificent patrician houses that bear witness to its former prosperity. The townscape of Valendas has been awarded the title "townscape of national importance" and is home to what is probably the largest wooden fountain in Europe.
At the entrance to the Safiental lies a unique natural jewel - the Rhine Gorge. Its limestone walls, up to 300 m high, and the many valuable habitats, such as gravel banks, floodplains and the Erika pine forest, are home to many rare and protected plants and animals, including orchids and the very rare sandpiper.
The valley road meanders from Versam to Thalkirch for around 25 km and offers magnificent scenery. Tenna, also known for the world's first solar-powered ski lift, is situated on a wonderful sunny terrace. The pretty little church is often visited as it has wonderful murals. Safien Platz is on the way further into the valley. It is nestled between the Glaspass and Güner Lückli, which are popular crossings into the neighboring valleys for hikers. And in Safien Platz you simply have to stop off at the Spensa. A self-service store stocked with fine delicacies and homemade products from the valley.
If you venture further back into the valley, you will be surprised at how the valley suddenly opens up. On one side, rugged rock faces tower into the sky and on the other, extensive alpine meadows invite you to go hiking. At the very end, you feel as if you are in an amphitheater. A mountain world and nature that is good for the soul.
In winter, the Safiental is an Eldorado for ski tourers and snowshoe hikers. In Tenna, the world's first solar ski lift transports skiers using solar energy.
Beverin Nature Park - where the Capricorn is at home
The area of the Beverin Nature Park extends around the Piz Beverin.
The nature park comprises four valleys and two culturally, historically and linguistically different settlement areas.
The nine park communities have joined forces and strive for sustainable economic and social development. Together we preserve precious natural and cultural assets, strengthen the local economy and promote nature and culture-oriented tourism. We also act as a service provider, mediator, coordinator and knowledge carrier for the concerns of the region.
