Welcome to Lake Walensee!
It is not for nothing that the Walensee region against the backdrop of the Churfirsten mountains is affectionately known as the Riviera of Eastern Switzerland. The Mediterranean flair is particularly noticeable in the car-free wine village of Quinten, where the mild climate allows kiwis, figs, lemons and wine to thrive. From Weesen or Walenstadt, you can walk along the shores of the fjord-like lake to Quinten and return by boat.
Of course, the detour from Betlis to the Seerenbach Falls and the Rin Spring is also worthwhile. The three Murg lakes are true pearls of creation. Waterfalls and streams, rock gardens and ancient Swiss stone pines make the hike there an experience. By the way: Murg is home to the largest population of sweet chestnut trees north of the Alps.
Of course, you can also spend a leisurely day on the beach or venture out onto the water on a stand-up paddle board. A whole play experience has been created for younger visitors: There are no fewer than six themed playgrounds around the lake, which are connected by a legend and the ship.
The Flumserberg is calling!
The largest summer and winter sports area between Zurich and Chur stretches high above Lake Walen. The cable cars take you stress-free up to the summit of the Maschgenkamm (2020 m) with panoramic views of Lake Walen, the Churfirsten peaks and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sardona.
One of the classic hikes is the challenging 7-summit hike, which features 14 lakes and the alpine backdrop of the Grisons, Glarus and Central Swiss Alps. Gain an insight into the formation of the Alps on the GeoGallery, while you enjoy the diversity of Alpine flora on the beautiful plateaus to the Spitzmeilenhütte. Places of power accompany you on the "Route des Staunens" (Route of Amazement) to the three lakes of the Seebenalp.
First and foremost, however, Flumserberg is known for plenty of action: the BikerBerg offers 13 km of easy to moderately difficult trails, but there are also signposted routes through the Flumserberg area, such as the Flumserberg-Panoramabike tour no. 470. The CLiiMBER climbing tower and the FLOOMZER toboggan run offer challenges and lots of fun for families. Things are quieter on the Sagenerlebnisweg, where the little ones accompany Heidi and Peter.
Come to the Pizol adventure mountain!
The Pizol region takes you up high: cable cars and chairlifts run from Bad Ragaz and Wangs to the popular hiking and skiing area at over 2200 m above sea level. The Pizol lifts open up over 100 km of hiking trails. The classic par excellence is the 5-lake hike, which takes you through the alpine landscape to five crystal-clear mountain lakes.
The Panorama High Trail between the Laufböden and Pizolhütte mountain stations is easier but no less scenic. The new Edelweiss trail is lined with eight steles with interesting facts about the rare plant as well as rustic alpine baskets.
There is certainly no shortage of alternatives: embark on the multimedia Garmil high-altitude hike, pay a visit to the Wangsersee and Viltersersee lakes on the 2-lake hike and discover the exciting Heidi trail with the kids. Families are very important on the Pizol - the Pizol Memory, Bird Village and Water Forest are just waiting for little explorers.
Bündner Herrschaft: Visit Heidi's home!
Maienfeld in the Bündner Herrschaft is home to the most famous girl from the Swiss mountains. On the Heidi adventure trails, you can get very close to the children's book heroine and discover the original locations of the world-famous story.
In addition to Heidi, the Bündner Herrschaft is all about wine: the sun-drenched "Burgundy of Switzerland" is famous for its Pinot Noir. The wine trails take you right through the vineyards, into idyllic winegrowing villages and directly to the wineries, where a tasting or two await...
The Malanser Älplibahn is a record-breaker: the smallest mountain railroad in Graubünden is operated exclusively by volunteers. Book your ticket in good time! Once you have arrived at the mountain station at 1801 m, you are spoiled for choice: should it be an ascent to the Vilan summit, the Zuckerstock or a hike around the Malanser Älpli?
