Bellinzona and Valleys

Completed in a single day (7 hr), including the detour due to trail closure near Oberalppass. Outdooractive indicates a section of T4 trail near the Bornengo Pass, but I think that it’s only T3.

A small section of the trail is T4 (blue and white, Alpine hiking trail), but was not particularly dangerous or technical.

A fabulous hike, the Via Alta Verzasca, I did two years ago. I hiked from Belinzona FFS up to the start of the VAV, the VAV to Sonogno and then from Sonogno along the ridge between Verzasca and Valle Maggio back to Locarno, 10 days, staying each night at a hut. The huts were great. The VSV route was well marked and challenging, though not difficult. I would not want to try it too early in the year if there is still a lot of snow, or too late in the season when there would be little water along the ridges. Lots of wildlife, great views. The VAV is a route, not a trail, but I only lost it a few times and it wasn't too hard to find it again. Some reviews say things like "very difficult", "expert only", "hazardous"; I did not find it difficult and I am old and not in great shape. The main hazard, being a ridge top hike, is the weather. You will want to drop down off the ridge top if it looks like lightning is coming your way.
