We love this hike. The variant we did today, which was excellent: we ascended on the spectacular path that begins at Los Descansaderos, joined this path at El Cercado, and continued on this path clockwise.

A beautiful hike. The hermitage is a great place for lunch break: there are benches in the shade, plus cats and hens to share it with.

A beautiful, varied hike. NOTE 1: begin at Valhermoso, not at the marked starting point. NOTE 2: much of this walk is on paved or unplanned roads. You can take some shortcuts on small paths that make it more interesting

The beginning❗️of the route is difficult until you reach the first top. Guiding marks are the piles of stones. I would classify that part of the route as not safe:slippery ground close to the edges. Measure the risk. A good few caves and spectacular views of Valle Gran Rey. The rest of the route is easy, loose rocks and dry ground.  The opposite side of the hike is a view of Argaga, stunning scenery from Las Pilas.  Recommendation: good hiking shoes, walking sticks and do only when the weather is dry. Do not do the reverse route. Those who have knee issues, prepare for a long steep way down.

Great roundtrip, I did it the other way around and started at Mirador de la Pilarica where you almost can go up with car through the typical supernarrow streets. So from this side, you start going directly to the beautiful rock and having an incredible view almost from the beginning. The nature and plants are stunning and the smell was bewitching. At this time of the year everything seems to start blooming. So as you can guess it is going up for a while and down, or the other way around. The paths are in very good condition and partially made of natural stairs, great view from every part of the hike. You may consider that around on third you will be lead on streets (but almost no cars, just for residents). Also this is for almost half of the trip not nature-silent since you have a direct view to Vallehermoso and can hear all the street noise (and from road construction as in my case) in the distant. It is nevertheless a beautiful tour, highly recommended if you are not expecting to be absolutely remote, as on other parts of this island.

Haltestelle Epina... Am Ziel bei El Jape in Arure fährt auch die Buslinie 1 Richtung Valle.

Little did I know… this hike is really difficult since it is very steep and the trail is not easy to follow. I just made it to Mirador del Erque which is around half of the descent to Erquito (which is the lowest point of the trail). Just this part took me almost 3 hours with 2 short breaks. The name Old Path is well earned, I believe only few are skilled and brave enough for this. I personally was not, although I am used to mountain hiking. Often it is just about guessing where to go, on the other hand it’s anyway just about going down through this absolutely stunning and beautiful Barranco. Rock climbing experience is a big advantage, many places at the first half of the decent needs to be climbed down feet first on steep rocks with the next ground lower than 2 meters. I cannot believe in any way this trip can be made in 4,5 hours. The complete descent maybe yes but this is only half of the trail. Hence only 4 stars. Do not underestimate the cacti and Agaves which makes paths sometimes hard to pass since the trial is not maintained, good and robust clothing is a must. I would also recommend walking sticks. Although I just made 1/4 of the regular trail, and then took the street to return to the starting point (which may take 1 h 15 in a proper pace), I totally enjoyed the landscape and view, I was absolutely worth it anyway. So read the original description carefully and consider the steepness and rough terrain and pointy plants. If you can handle this, you will be greatly rewarded, this I am sure.
