If you want to find a hike less popular than the others on the island, this is a place to be! During the whole trip we did not meet anyone and walked in total solitude. On the other hand, one must take into account that the path is very poorly marked - there are some directions signs in the upper part (San Mateo - Utiaca), but from there on they are non-existent. A detailed map (we used Locus maps) and a GPS is a must. Also be prepared that the terrain might be difficult (wear hiking boots) - a significant part of the path leads directly in the rocky dry-creek bed, in other parts you encounter dense reed, landslides, fallen trees... The landscape of the valley is nice, with interesting rock formations and very specific vegetation. Just do not expect any sea or mountain views. The whole trip took us about two and half hours.
