Things to do in Tromsø
Chase the northern lights
Tromsø is arguably the most popular destination in Norway for viewing the northern lights. Our upcoming guide will describe how the different tours work.
Fly across the snow
Early in the year Tromsø becomes a winter playground, covered in snow. Go dog sledding in the wilderness or try winter hiking with snowshoes.
Explore Kvaløya island
A short drive to the west, Kvaløya Island features excellent hiking trails and viewpoints. A ferry connects Kvaløya and Senja Island in the summer months.
Go whale watching
In the heart of winter humpback whales and orcas (killer whales) enter the waters near Tromsø to feed. Venture into the fjords to see them and other wildlife.
Visit the Lyngen Alps
The mountains around Lyngenfjord are a prized spring skiing destination, and offer hiking trails and good conditions to spot northern lights.
Sail the waters
Fjord cruises are available all year round. Sail under the midnight sun or catch a northern lights show. Or stay docked and enjoy a spa and steam.
