We did the section between Žabljak and Mojkovac in two days, camping at Zabojsko jezero. We crossed over Veliki Kurozeb and through the "green mountain sea" between the lake and before the trail reconnects with a gravel road before the church. I would recommend relying on the waymarking rather than the GPS. The route is well marked, with frequent signs and large poles featuring a hiking figure. The GPS did not always match the faint path on the ground, so we found it more useful as a secondary aid to confirm our general direction. The church in Okrugljak also seems like a good camping option, with an open shelter in the yard, a toilet behind the church, and a bench. We can also confirm that the descent to Mojkovac is in good condition. Again, don't follow the GPS blindly - follow the trail markings instead. They lead along an excellent track on the left side of Topovi, not the right.

First day I went from Mojkovac to Zabojsko lake. I took me 10 hours, 30 km. First part from Mojkovac to Okrugkjak (5 hours) is quite easy, lot of gravel roads, well marked, nice wiews on the mountains. I took water at Katun Mulece. Second part is more hiking trail, but difficult to follow the marks in the grass, landscape looks like Mongolia sometimes. Nice spot to camp at the lake, you can do fire, you can also stay at the guesthouse nearby, in a wooden house with no signs (20 € a night, a meal 8-10 €). Nice guests, they don't speak english, good homemade food but only cold shower and no heat in the dorm. Second day I walked from Zabojsko lake to Zimničko lake. Around 20 km in 7 hours. Nice mountainous meadows in the first part, smalls wood villages, sometimes difficult to follow the marks, at the end 5 km of gravel road in the forest. No sources. A guy took me in his car near Zimničko lake and drove me to Zabljak. I spent the night at Hikers Den hostel (18 € in a dorm, kitchen).

Stage done May ‘25 We did this section over two long days and detoured the end from Mojkovac to biogradska lake. Road walk out of Zabljack. Trail hard to follow for around 10km over veliki kurozeb. We stayed at zabojsko lake, beautiful but very cold when we were there. Gravel road for a few km after lake, then trail hard to follow for around 10km, we relied on gps a lot. Resupply in Mojkovac. Cannot comment on section after Mojkovac as we took a lift to Biogradska lake, we camped there and then hiked up to rejoin VD just after katun dolovi lalevica.

We did the hike in june 2025. It was a beautiful stage. We slept near the church in Okrugljak. There was nearly no water in the tap of the source (N.O of the village). Someone in the village showed us a tap in a garden of an house. We tried to follow the marks and used a little bit the GPS between Okrugljak and the lake Zabojsko but it was ok. And just before the lake the marks were better than the track on GPS. For information, there were lost of mosquitos in Zabojsko.

Stage done at the beginning of August 2024: Path is straightforward because on a gravel road. Don’t miss to go left shortly before Rudinovača, There is a little shop in Njegovuđa and the water tap at the cemetery close to Zminičko Jezero was working. I asked the locals in Pašino Polje and could stay there overnight. For me, the path to Veliki Kurozeb was good to find because you could either see a sign, a marker or previous footsteps in the grass. However, I can imagine that it is more difficult to find at the start of the season. Until Katun Zaboj, I had no problems to find my way: The markings made me leave the gravel road to pass the Katun. Afterwards is a meadow, which leads to a house where a man showed me the way. Basically, the path was on the right side of the house. This path is a bit shorter than the gravel road. But both come together at a little restaurant, which had nice food and where they were so kind to refill my water bottles. I think that you can also camp there. The spring at Zabojsko Jezero was not very convincing. At the lake, I saw the last sign and followed the gravel road, which became a forest road after a while. Unfortunately, I could not find any markings or signs anymore and followed the forest roads hoping to reach an obvious VD marking. It took me about 40 minutes uphill through the forest until I reached a meadow and came back on the VD. Until Katun Okrugljak, there is nothing but green hills. At the Katun, I did not find any water but as I had enough, I did not ask around. I asked for permission to sleep next to the church. From the church, I started on the trail = gravel road. After a while a car stopped and gave me a lift to Mojkovac (accommodation, supermarkets, restaurants etc). Due to upcoming thunder and lightning, I had to be faster and did not take the VD towards Džambas mountain hut but the path mentioned in previous comments sign-posted as Katun road. It goes directly from Mojkovac via Katun Matovine and Katun Vragodo towards Šisko jezero.

Hiking NB. Completed Sept. 30 - Oct. 2. First day was an easy hike from Doliva to Mojkovac. The trail was well marked and views down into the lake on top of Doliva were very nice. The last downhill before you start catching the roads in Mojkovac was very steep..no marking and had to do serpentines down. Took 3-4 hours to get into Mojkovac. The PD in Mojkovac is abandoned/closed, so had to find a campsite near the river. $5/night with shower. Plenty of stores to refuel in Mojkovac. From Mojkovac, I had two 35km days to Zabljak. The first day, I had to detour from Mojkovac slightly because the entrance to the CT-1 was closed immediately leaving town. I hiked on the road for 2-3kms before going up into the mountains to catch the CT-1. Almost all gravel for the first 15kms. When you start to go through the grassy plains/steppe, the trail becomes tough to follow. Had to use my GPS more than I expected in this portion. After 5-6kms through the steppe, you catch up with the CT-1 again before getting to Zabojsko lake. Really nice lake with places to camp right next to lake. There was also a guesthouse/restaurant/ hunter's den operated by a nice guy less than 5 min walk from Zabojsko. Hike into Zabljak was again mostly on the CT-1 road. When I got to Zabljak, I stayed in one of two hostels there for a rest day. Plenty of places to refuel in Zabljak if needed.

Nice section, took us 3 days. First night we camped at Veliki Kurozeb. At 13km, there’s a coffee 50 meters away from the path. Water at 15.6km, if you go towards the church. Around 42.8km we got completely lost because we followed the wrong path. Be careful there. No water at all in Okrugljak. Looks like the locals removed the fountain mentioned in other comments. But water a few kms further at 51.1km, where we slept the second night in a weird but real b&b held by 2 farmers who don’t speak English. I wouldn’t rely on it too much tough. The way down to Mojkovac passing through Topovi is perfectly fine. From Mojkovac, we decided to shortcut the Dzambas hut by taking a shorter path to Sisko Jezero. This path is named « katun road », showed on OA, and is perfectly fine. If you do this shortcut, there’s water spring at Katun Vragodo.

Respect! In KOMOVI NATURE PARK, on the route of the First Montenegrin Transversal CT1, at the foot of Kučki Kom, I am the owner of a cabin that has served mountaineers and all other visitors as a shelter and overnight stay all these years ago, and God willing, in the future. The cabin is open and accessible to all visitors. It is listed on the map as a mountain hut. Visitors can, if they wish and are able, donate a symbolic amount, which would help me keep the hut functional, and would also contribute to extending its lifespan. Gorgeous trail, extremenly adventurous and diverse. I did a thru-hike between August and October of 2021 and have shared some insights, experiences and GPS tracks on this page: https://www.balkanize-me.eu/ I had many insecurities when I started and was grateful for other hikers' advice. Feel free to reach out to me - I'm very happy to pay it forward!

Surprising section with Scottish-like landscapes (maybe because of the light rain aha). I camped by Zimničko Jezero (some spots on the right when you arrive to the lake), then by the church/sheltered picnic table in Okrugljak the next night (although quite windy). Owners of the restaurant in Zabojsko Jezero are lovely, you can also sleep there in small cabins if you want to have a shorter hiking day. The way down to Mojkovac was actually straightforward: GPS is not wrong, there is a path going down straight to the town. Go to Topovi, after the small Yugoslav monument there will be markings on the left that kind of follow GPS track. After Mojkovac, Džambas hut was closed but the lower floor of the hut is always open and can serve as an emergency shelter in case of bad weather (a few beds, some blankets).
