The northern part of Tottori Prefecture has a varied coastline of white sand and green pine dunes, including the Tottori Sand Dunes, as well as strange rocks and caves created by the rough waves of the Sea of Japan. To the south, Mt. Daisen, the highest mountain in the Chugoku region, rises above the sea.
Mitokuyama, located in Misasa Town, was a religious center that brought together mountain worship and Buddhism. There are many temples on Mt. Mitoku, and Sanbutsu-ji's Deutai-do Hall, built on a cliff, is designated as a national treasure.
Sakaiminato, the hometown of cartoonist Shigeru Mizuki, is famous as a "town of ghosts. The entire town of Sakaiminato is like a theme park and is fun for both children and adults.
