Facing the Sea of Japan in the Chugoku region, Shimane is a prefecture overflowing with historical and natural attractions such as Izumo Taisha Shrine, one of Japan's representative matchmaking destinations, the World Heritage Site Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine, and the Oki Islands, a UNESCO World Geopark.
Matsue, loved by the Meiji Era writer Koizumi Yakumo, plays the role of the prefectural capital and has many tourist attractions such as Matsue Castle, a national treasure, and Lake Shinji, selected as one of the best 100 sunsets. Tsuwano, known as the "Little Kyoto" of the San'in region, and the Yasugi area, which developed as a port town, still conveys a unique atmosphere. The Adachi Museum of Art in Yasugi, which has received three Michelin stars in the Michelin Guide and is regarded as the best garden in Japan, is also a must-see.
