As the final stop on the Silk Road, Nara developed its culture under the influence of European and Asian countries. Despite its location in the urban Kansai region, Nara has many World Heritage sites and historical buildings, and its old town houses and urban areas have been carefully preserved.
The Yoshino Mountains in the southern part of Nara Prefecture, with its rugged terrain and abundant water from the Yoshino and Kitayama Rivers, create distinctive natural landscapes such as the Mitarai Valley and the Sasa Falls. Yoshinoyama is densely populated with 30,000 cherry trees, which turn the entire mountain pink in spring. The charm of Nara Prefecture is that you can fully enjoy its history and nature even though it is located near an urban area.
