Two of Mie's most famous sites are the Kumano Kodo, registered as a World Heritage site, and Ise Jingu Shrine, which was visited by worshippers from all over Japan during the Edo period (1603-1868). Visitors to the Ise-road of Kumano Kodo can experience the nature and history of this land in the foreground. Mie is also home to many theme parks such as Nagashima Spa Land and Shima Spain Village, and the winter illumination at Nabana-no-sato is one of the largest in Japan. The scenery of the Rias coastline is also beautiful, and beaches such as Shirahama allow visitors to enjoy not only swimming but also watching the sunset over the faraway Pacific Ocean will move you beyond words.
