Kumamoto

Kumamoto is called the "Land of Fire" because Aso boasts one of the world's largest calderas. The majestic nature of the mountains and grasslands formed by the active volcano is a unique landscape. In this great nature, the history of people has continued since BC, with many places associated with mythology such as Aso Shrine, and traditional culture such as the Yatsushiro Myoken Festival, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, has been handed down to the present. Kumamoto is also a hot spring paradise, with hot springs springing up everywhere, numbering as many as 118 locations. There are a wide variety of hot springs, including therapeutic hot springs such as Yamaga Onsen, Uchimaki Onsen in Aso where visitors can enjoy magnificent scenery, and Hinaku Onsen and Hitoyoshi Onsen, which are full of elegance.
