Kanazawa, the prefectural capital, is home to many of Ishikawa's representative tourist attractions, including one of the most prosperous downtown areas in Hokuriku, Kenrokuen Garden, and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art. Kanazawa is also the castle town of Kaga Hyakumangoku, and traditional crafts such as gold leaf and Kaga Yuzen are still alive today, as well as the historical townscape. The Kaga region is located in the southern part of Ishikawa Prefecture. The region is famous for hot springs such as Yamanaka Onsen and Yamashiro Onsen. Hakusan, one of the three most famous mountains in Japan, is also located in the Kaga region. The Noto region is the part of Ishikawa Prefecture that juts out into the Sea of Japan. There are abundant spots to enjoy nature, such as Senmaida rice fields facing the sea and scenic beaches.
