In the Southern Great Plain region, two of our major rivers, the Danube and the Tisza, cross the plains from the eastthe Körös and Berettyó rivers, and in the south the low flood plains formed by the Maros. Alongside the rivers, there are numerous backwaters to admire from kayaks, canoes or two-wheelers. The Körös-Maros basin and the Bácskai lowlands are home to arable land with their excellent soil. In the latter, parabolabucks are more common. The largest central plain of the region is the lowland between the Danube and the Tisza. In this endless wilderness, numerous quicksand hummocks can be observed. The region is also home to the Bustard Reserve in Dévaványa, where you can get up close and personal with the big birds of our grasslands. There is also the National Historical Memorial Park in Ópusztaszeren, where tradition has it that our ancestors first enacted laws during the conquest of Hungary.
