The regions in the southwest of mainland Greece and those in the northwest of the Peloponnese peninsula are part of Western Greece. The landscape couldn't be more different: between the sandy beaches on the Ionian coast and the wild mountains of Pindus and Helmos lie fertile plains, hot springs and historic towns that are worth a visit. Since 2004, both banks have been connected by the Rio-Andirrio Bridge in the Gulf of Corinth.
