    Brombeerstauden gleich zu Beginn. Der Aufstieg im schattigen Tal ist steil, aber abwechslungsreich und gut markiert. Für den Aufstieg bis der Weg auf die Strasse trifft benötigten wir rund 2 Std. In der Sommerhitze verzichteten wir auf den zweiten schattenlosen Teil und wanderten in 1.25 Std auf der kaum befahrenen Strasse zurück ins Dorf.

    Ein sehr Schöne Tour, die wir inzwischen zum dritten Mal gelaufen sind. wir haben sie in Ambelaki begonnen, was besser für die Anfahrt war. Am Orginal Startort muss man den Einstieg in den Weg nach Kare etwas suchen.

    Sehr schöner Weg, jedoch auch anspruchsvoll! Es empfiehlt sich, den Weg in der entgegengesetzten Richtung zu gehen, dann hat man zwar am Anfang einen sehr steilen Anstieg über Felsen etc., dies vermeidet jedoch den sehr steilen Abstieg und mögliche Verletzungen. Unbedingt auf die Markierungen achten, um nicht vom Weg abzukommen. Am besten in den frühen Morgenstunden starten, dann wartet das Mittagessen im Dorf oder in der Nähe. :)

    Ab Kilometer 1,9 nicht dem Wegverlauf vom letzten Jahr folgen. Besser auf der kleinen Straße bleiben, die andere Strecke ist mit Zäunen und Gittern abgeschlossen und der beschriebene Ziegenpfad ist komplett Hüfthoch zugewachsen. Ansonsten eine wunderschöne Landschaft mit vielen Ausblicken.

    This was an excellent walk with plenty to see. A good variety of terrains. You’ll need to take your time walking through the olive groves at the top as we lost the path for a short time before retracing our steps to find it again. Great military museum at the top also worth a visit. We started from Rethymno centre along the coast and under the main road. We did this in April 2025, not sure I would manage this in the heat of the summer.

    This is a great route, I did it in reverse, walking up a track to Chromonastri and down the gorge. The track leaving /leading to Chromonastri was very steep and overgrown with brambles so I would recommend taking the Rethymon- Roussospitiou road to and from Chromonstri and joing the path to the gorge a bit further down. I'd reccommend giving yourself time to have a look around Chromonastri, it's a lovely village with a couple of good tavernas.
